2 additional equine confirmed as having been affected with West Nile virus
Results of diagnostic testing completed and reported earlier today by the University of Kentucky’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed a diagnosis of West Nile virus affecting 2 additional horses in KY. The Department of Agriculture’s web page will be updated to include these two additional cases which are summarized below.
In HARDIN County KY KDA Reference: 16 is
a 12YR TN WALKING HORSE FE- ALIVE, attending veterinarian reported today the patient continues to improve and expected to recover
Onset Date: 10/25/18 Acute ataxia and muscle fasciculation
Vaccination: It is understood the patient was Partially vaccinated (initial single dose) reportedly given ~1/20/2018
In ROCKCASTLE County KY
KDA Reference: 015 is
-a 5YR TN WALKING HORSE FE – EUTHANIZED
Onset Date: 10/24/18 Neurologic Spasticity (contracted muscles), the condition worsened, patient got down and was euthanized
Vaccination: No WNV Vacc History
