Results of diagnostic testing reported today by the University of KY’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed KY’s first equine diagnosed with West Nile Virus in Kentucky this year.

The confirmation is based on detectable WNv specific IgM antibodies and compatible clinical symptoms.

 

1 Equine Confirmed Today As Affected With West Nile Virus

In WASHINGTON County Kentucky – KDA Reference 001 is:

-a  15YR QUARTER HORSE Gelding – ALIVE

Onset Date: 09/08/2020 when he presented Hypersensitive to touch and knuckling over

On 9/15 the patient is described by the attending veterinarian as having responded to treatment, is much improved with a favorable prognosis.

 

Vaccination: No WNV Vacc History
