I did yesterday receive information confirming a 2nd case of Potomac Horse Fever in Kentucky, and it too is located in Bourbon County.  The premises are greater than 6 miles apart and the findings of our epidemiologic investigations do support our conclusion of there being no direct correlation or relationship between these  two cases.

A summary of this second case follows:

PHF Case #2
6/5/2018 Confirmed PHF (2nd Case Y-T-D)
Bourbon County

A 2017 Thoroughbred Filly
Presented 5/29/18 with acute watery diarrhea of 48hr duration, dehydrated and had been febrile
PCR testing (whole blood and feces) confirmed diagnosis of Potomac Horse Fever and treatment was begun

On Tuesday, June 5th the filly appeared much improved and is expected to make a full recovery.
